Lelemba Community Empowerment Project (LCEP) is a women's grassroots organisation that was established in 2007; we are a registered charitable company in the Zambia with the main aim of inspiring, supporting and empowering the most disadvantaged women with special emphasis on young women infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, victims and survivors of violence and other types of abuse, refugees and asylum seekers from neighbouring war tone countries and those just released from prison.

Most of these women are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses.

LCEP do this by providing the following services:

  • Life skills training workshops
  • Coaching into employment and training
  • Live stock rearing for resale
  • Provision of basic requirements for  women with children

To begin to address poverty, women also plant a wide variety of vegetables in their gardens to be feed themselves and their children.

A programme has been introduced, with the focus on improving the quality of life for young women and their vulnerable children, as well as for women of all ages living with HIV/AIDS.

OUR AIM

To develop an effective grassroots community support for women client-centred support network which aims to remodel the adverse impact of poverty, poor health and other types of injustices promoting, developing and supporting women and their children, through partnership with national and international organisations.

OUR OBJECTIVES

As set out in our governing documents our objects are:

1.    The advancement of education, the preservation and protection of health, relief of poverty, and the prevention of crime among women.

2.    To develop the capacity and skills of women and children who are socially disadvantaged in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society.

3.    To preserve the health of women and their children

4.  To reduce the level of early or teenage marriages and pregnancies by sensitising the young women and girls about the risks involved in polygamous marriages, and the reduction of abuse of women by men.

OUR CLIENT-CENTRED APPROACH

LCEP offers a focused client-centred approach which is an important principle in our work. We begin by believing the client, and acknowledging that their needs come first and foremost. In working with them, we guarantee that we will:

·      Believe and empathise with them,

·       Make their health, safety and welfare the first priority,

·       Establish what the client wants and endeavour to achieve it,

·       Respect confidentiality and protect the interests of the women

·      Empower the women through training and awareness raising activities
